Afaf Al-Jishi, a native of Qatif in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, finds inspiration in her culturally rich hometown. Currently residing in Qatif, her upbringing in an environment that embraced diverse cultures significantly influenced her, shaping her identity. In May 2023, she earned a Painting Diploma from The School of Art Institute in Chicago, complementing her background as an Architecture and Interior Design graduate. Her diverse skill set includes expertise in visual arts, photography, freelance training, teaching, and curating. Currently, she is a member of Palette Chisel Art Academy in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Saudi Aramco Dhahran Art Group, Qatif Art Group, and the Culture and Arts Association in Dammam. Afaf seamlessly integrates her roles as an artist, mother, and educator. Intrigued by the intersection of human behavior and the surrounding world, she engages in continuous exploration of cognitive science, delving into the intricacies of the human soul through meditation and breathing exercises. Her artistic expression serves as a medium to convey the essence of her culture, local identity, and the universal human experience. Afaf's artwork reflects her meditative and reflective approach to nature and self. Utilizing various media and materials, she skillfully weaves personal experiences into rich art pieces, emphasizing the revival of heritage and traditional arts. Her focus extends to the pivotal roles of women and families in the Arab world. Beyond her artistic endeavors, she actively conducts training workshops to foster self-development, awareness, and expressive skills through visual arts, especially for children. Her talent is evident in her participation in numerous exhibits and events. Notable showcases include the Misk Art Institute Week 2020, the 7th Borolls International Symposium for Painting on Walls and Boats in Egypt, contributions to the Fourth Symposium (Asaq) for Gulf visual artists in Alahsa, and Dar Nora’s exhibitions in Alahsa. Additionally, her artwork has been acquired by the Red Sea Development Company in Saudi Arabia. Afaf's commitment to cultural exchange and understanding resonates in her advocacy for art as a means to bridge gaps between diverse cultures, religions, and beliefs, making her a lifelong learner and passionate advocate for the transformative power of visual arts.
