Mitali Deshpande

An artist and art historian from India, I work as a organic dye artist on natural fabrics.  As an art professional I have taught at some of the leading art and design institutions,  and worked on curatorial, archival and writing projects in India  along with my practice of art, which started flourishing after learning the technique of extracting colours out of organic materials from mother earth.  I have exhibited my works of art in several group shows held in the cities like Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Jaipur. I connected with Dhahran art Group from the year 2024 with the group show Aaraqa. My works exhibited here are based in the traditional art practice of natural dyes, with colours made using organic elements like  haldi (turmeric), from petals of flowers, leaves, barks and herbs like majistha and katha, heena, indigo, etc.  My  works in the natural dyes use the techniques like tie and dye, drawings from imagination and process of documentation, resist techniques of creating patterns, stitching and embroidery. I like exploring and experimenting with new techniques to better represent my ideas
